Flavie Laurent Centre Is bursting at seams; New building needed to serve thousands of vulnerable Winnipeg women, children and families
Winnipeg MB, November 14 2019 — Flavie Laurent Centre provides needed home supplies for up to 7000 vulnerable and working poor Manitobans each year who are starting their lives over, escaping violence, and struggling to get a leg up on life. But the organization has run out of room to store the most-needed donated items such as mattresses, major appliances, and essential housewares. “People are lining up, and the warehouse walls are closing in”, said Julie Turenne-Maynard, board chair of Flavie Laurent Centre.
“Flavie Laurent Centre is bringing hope and relief from hardships anyone could face when life gets tough. They don’t want to have to turn anyone away at their time of need because of space issue, which is a real risk. That’s why we’re launching a challenge to the community. We will match any donation made, up to $250,000.” said Daniel Lussier, CEO of the Catholic Health Corporation of Manitoba.
The launch of a $1.2 million capital campaign to create a new place where no-one can be turned away or left out in the cold in their time of need launched today. There is a five month deadline to raise the funds.
